The brand-new album from the jazz bassist with Slovenian roots is called "Move Closer!" and attempts a synthesis of modern jazz arithmetic and traditional lines. Influences from the Balkans and Cuba take center stage, lending the nine expansive compositions jazzy freedom and catchy melodies. Afro-Cuban folklore meets unusual rhythmic shifts, demanding a great deal of groove and creative harmony from the sextet. A blend that captivates me from the very first chord.
